You Won’t Believe the Serious Illnesses These Celebs Battle on a Daily Basis

There are plenty of celebrities struggling with illnesses on a day to day basis, proving that health concerns, diseases, and other ailments are not selective. While some celebs choose to share their battles with the world, others keep to themselves and battle quietly.

Yolanda Foster

The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star has been battling Lyme disease for a few years now. The reality star has shared parts of her journey with followers on social media. She has traveled the world to receive various treatments to help with the side effects. It wasn’t until after she had her breast implants removed that she seemed a bit better. However, she is still fighting a battle every day.

Toni Braxton

The Grammy Award winner was diagnosed with lupus at age 15. Last year, she opened up to HuffPost Live about her struggle with the illness. “Some days I can’t balance it all. I just have to lay in bed. Pretty much when you have lupus you feel like you have the flu every day. But some days you get through it. But for me, if I’m not feeling well, I tend to tell my kids, ‘Oh mommy’s just going to relax in bed today.’ I kind of take it easy,” she said.

Halle Berry

The actress was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes several years ago. Halle Berry is on a pretty strict diet that helps keep the disease in check. “Diabetes caught me completely off guard. None of my family had suffered from the illness and although I was slightly overweight in school, I thought I was pretty healthy. I fell ill—dramatically—when I was on the TV show, Living Dolls, in 1989. I felt I needed energy but I didn’t even have a minute to pop out and get a chocolate bar. I didn’t really know what was wrong,” Berry said back in 2005 (via Mail Online).

Jack Osbourne

Ozzy and Sharon’s son announced that he was suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2012. He experienced all types of symptoms including numbness in his legs and vision loss. Just last month, Jack Osbourne spoke out about his diagnosis. “I set the rules. Ultimately, [MS] is going to have a say on how you physically feel, but mentally I’ve chosen to be more positive about it than negative,” Osbourne told Everyday Health.

Tom Hanks

In 2013, Tom Hanks revealed the illness that he’d been battling: type 2 diabetes. According to ABC News, Hanks’ doctor encouraged him to lose some weight following the diagnosis. “I went to the doctor and he said, ‘You know those high blood sugar numbers you’ve been dealing with since you were 36, well you’ve graduated. You’ve got type 2 diabetes, young man,'” Hanks said.

The Purple Rain singer has had quite a few seizures in his day. According to the New York Daily News, Prince admitted that he was born with epilepsy. Although he has the illness under control now, it is unclear if he grew out of it or if he still takes medication to keep it in check.

Missy Elliott

The entertainer was diagnosed with Graves’ disease after having tremors. According to Billboard, Graves’ is defined as “an overproduction of thyroid hormones, although specialists aren’t sure why this starts in previously healthy individuals.” The illness is kept in check with regular diet and exercise. Missy Elliott also must do her best to avoid stress.

Miley Cyrus

In 2009, the Bangerz singer revealed that she suffers from tachycardia, a condition that makes her heart beat at a faster pace than normal. Cyrus may be able to live with tachycardia, but she has said that knowing she has the condition really bothers her. “The type of tachycardia I have isn’t dangerous. It won’t hurt me, but it does bother me. There is never a time onstage when I’m not thinking about my heart,” she previously told MTV.

Michael J. Fox

Michael J. Fox cannot hide his illness. The actor has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for several years. The first symptom was a twitch in his left finger back in 1991.

Robin Roberts

The Good Morning America co-host has had a fairly tough go over the years, dealing with various illnesses. After beating breast cancer, Robin Roberts was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome and needed to undergo a bone marrow transplant.

Alec Baldwin

The actor struggles from a chronic form of Lyme disease. While he’s able to function on a day to day basis, he has been faced with some serious fatigue from time to time.

Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne knows about dealing with illness all too well; the singer was bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. In 2015, she opened up to People Magazine about her struggle, and admitted to being bedridden for five months due to her health crisis.

Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman suffers from an illness called fibromyalgia. He was diagnosed after a bad car accident and has openly admitted that chronic body pain is part of his every day life.

Nick Cannon

The America’s Got Talent host suffers from an auto-immune disease that is similar to lupus. He was actually hospitalized a while back because the illness caused him to have kidney failure and blood clots in his lungs.

Ben Stiller

The actor was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2010 while he was on vacation in Nantucket, Massachusetts. Although he was “cured” of his immediate symptoms, Lyme never leaves the human body and it could be something he has to deal with in the future.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

The brunette bombshell has suffered with bipolar disorder for many years. In 2013, Zeta-Jones had to enter treatment to help her deal with the struggles. According to the Huffington Post, she completed a 30-day program geared at helping her cope.

Lil Wayne

The rapper has suffered with illness and frequent hospitalization for many years. Recently, he has had seizures and it has been reported that he suffers from epilepsy.

Ashley Olson

The Full House star turned clothing designer also suffers from Lyme disease. She has taken quite a few years away from the spotlight to tend to her health.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler

According to Us Weekly, The Sopranos actress recently opened up about her decision to come forward with the news that she has multiple sclerosis. “You know, I lived with this secret that caused me to have so many feelings of shame and guilt and fear for so many years… I feel a great weight off my shoulders… It sounds crazy, but when you hold a secret, those feelings just come along with that. Especially when you hold a secret as long as I did,” she said.
