The average American female is 5'4", has a waist size of 37 inches, and weighs 166 pounds. But despite that crucial fact, most fashion and beauty magazines are noticeably void of curvy women. Doesn't make any sense, does it? Trust us. We're just as confused as you are.
Luckily, we have a whole crop of curvy celebrities who are fed up with it. These kick-ass women are taking a stand against the media's ridiculous idea of what the "perfect body" should look like by proudly flaunting what their mama gave them.
1. Kim Kardashian
Love or hate her, Kim is definitely not shy when it comes to flaunting her sexy curves. Known best for her famous derrière, the reality star was quoted in Cosmopolitan as saying, "I'm proud of my booty, and it's all mine!" You go, girl!
2. Demi Lovato
The singer and former Disney star has admitted to struggling with her weight but has since become one of the most outspoken celebrity advocates for changing how we view our bodies. "Most models are thinner than 98 percent of Americans," she tweeted in 2012. "Instead of trying to change our bodies, how about we try to change our culture?"
3. Christina Hendricks
Best known for her role as Joan on AMC's "Mad Men," the buxom redhead has actually gotten annoyed when people have referred to her as "full-figured." During an interview with Australia's Sun Herald, fashion editor Kate Waterhouse called Hendricks just that, hitting a major nerve with the actress. "I think calling me full-figured is just rude," Hendricks replied.
4. Christina Aguilera
Although the Grammy singer's weight has fluctuated over the years, "The Voice" judge absolutely loves her body. In an interview with People magazine, she said, "I've always been one to make it very clear; love me or hate me, take it or leave it, this is who I am," she stated. "I embrace my body, and I embrace everything about myself."
5. Nicki Minaj
The outspoken rapper pays mad respect to curvy woman—I mean, we've all heard "Anaconda," right? She even took a little criticism from the media, saying her song denigrated traditionally skinny women. Nicki responded appropriately. "Everything we see that's labeled as beautiful is very skinny," she said in an interview with Billboard magazine, "In the song I kind of say, 'F— them skinny girls.' But it's all love. I consider myself a skinny girl."
The "Bootylicious" singer once told Shape magazine that she isn't naturally thin, and that's perfectly okay. "Not everyone is supposed to be the same," she's quoted as saying. "Be healthy, and take care of yourself; but be happy with the beautiful things that make you you."
The "Hips Don't Lie" singer knows how to shake what her mama gave her on stage and in her music videos—and her partner absolutely loves it. "My man, Gerard, prefers meat over bone. He doesn't like me being too skinny," she said in an interview with Glamour.
8. Eva Mendes
In an interview with Marie Claire, the talented actress said she loves her curves and embraces her body despite Hollywood's obsession with thin actresses. More power to ya, girlfriend!
10. Jessica Simpson
The media has scrutinized the singer-turned-entrepreneur's weight for many years. In an interview with Us Weekly, she fired back, stating, "Curves are better. I don't get the whole rail thing. It's not good for your heart. It's not good for your mind; it's emotionally destructive, it really is."
11. Jennifer Love Hewitt
When it comes to body image and eating right, the actress told E! News that she wants to set a positive example for her young daughter. "I want her to see someday why her mom has good self-esteem and good body issues," she stated.
12. Kelly Clarkson
The "American Idol" singer has been bullied for her weight recently—especially after the birth of her first child last year. However, she doesn't let if faze her. "I've never been Gisele Bündchen," Clarkson told Parade, "so ain't nobody expectin' that!"

She's a successful entrepreneur, talented actress, and singer who adores her curviness. In fact, she even once admitted to firing a manager who once told her to lose weight. We don't blame you there, J. Lo! We probably would have done the same.
14. Sophia Vergara
The "Modern Family" star embraces her assets—especially "the twins." In an interview with Redbook, she talked about her famous curves. "The thing is, I've had these ridiculous huge boobs since I was super young, like, 13," she's quoted as saying.
15. Jennifer Hudson
The singer-turned-actress has admitted to battling the bulge for much of her life. After becoming a Weight Watchers spokesperson several years ago and dropping 80 pounds, she has maintained a healthy yet curvy figure. "The key about losing weight: You have to do it for you," Hudson told People. "And you can't let what everyone has to say overshadow what you want for you."
