Beyoncé is a worldwide sensation – and it's not without good reason. Her music is catchy, and her looks are unmatched, but the most intoxicating aspect about Queen Bey is her empowering stance on life. She wasn't handed her position as one of the most powerful women in the world, she worked for it, and along the way she's modeled a few lessons we should all learn.
1. Don't waste time.
"You have the same number of hours in your day as Beyoncé."
The above quote went viral because it's catchy and true. According to Forbes, Beyoncé's net worth in 2015 is $250 million, making her the 49th richest self-made woman in America. And she's only 33 years old. Between her music, endorsements, business prowess, and acting career, Queen Bey has proven to women worldwide that it is possible to build an empire regardless of "isms" (sexism, racism, whatever other ism you can think of). Now we must pose the question: What do you do on your free time?
2. Have an opinion.
Beauty and brains is a deadly combination, and also the definition of Beyoncé. She isn't just a starlet with a pretty face, she's also an activist involved in issues that matter. It is common knowledge that Beyoncé strongly endorsed Obama during his run for office. Her belief system about the Democratic Party and the policies the Obama's administration backed was shaped by her opinions and she wasn't afraid to share them with the world. She also takes her advocacy even further by supporting and joining Michelle Obama with efforts to promote global humanitarianism.
3. Show independence.
Ever since her days with Destiny's Child, Beyoncé has been an advocate for independence and women defining themselves by their own accomplishments, not depending on their men.
"The watch you're wearin', I'll buy it / The house I live in, I've bought it / The car I'm driving, I've bought it / I depend on me, I depend on me." —Independent Woman, Destiny's Child
4. Love your body.
Beyoncé is not a size zero. And we love that she isn't. She is a symbol of beauty, power and health. Recently Beyoncé has revealed she has been sticking to a vegan diet, not for weight loss, rather to simply be the healthiest version of herself possible. Whether the healthiest version of yourself means ditching the meat, or just spending an extra few hours in the gym each month, spending time on yourself is necessary, and learning to love yourself is imperative.
5. Keep yourself a mystery.
Not everything you do needs to be shared with the world. Over the years of their relationship, how many times have you heard about Jay-Z and baby Blue compared to Kim and Kanye, or Taylor Swift and (insert name of one of many boyfriends here). There is a difference between having an opinion and oversharing; one is far more annoying than the other. Don't let everyone in, and don't expose too much. Reveal just enough to keep people wanting more, maybe that's why she is a global brand.
