6 Best Emmys 2016 Moments That Had Us Cheering At Our TV

From Leslie Jones to Amy Schumer, these moments from the award ceremony are the parts we'll remember.

Television's biggest night of the year had some big moments for us watching at home. Sure, Game of Thrones and The People vs. O.J. Simpson dominated the 2016 Emmys, as expected, but there were plenty of surprises that had us jumping up from the comfort of our couches and cheering at the TV. (And no, one of them was not when Beyoncé lost the second step in her EGOT chances. Boo.) Here are the six greatest moments from last night's Emmys.

1. Amy Schumer Gets Personal About What She's Wearing

On the red carpet, every celeb has to call out the designer they're rocking to the awards, but our girl Amy took it much further. When Giuliana Rancic asked, "Who are you wearing?" it got real.

"Vivienne Westwood, Tom Ford Shoes, and an O.B. tampon," she says. Rock on for normalizing the period, girl.

2. Jill Soloway Fights for Women's Rights

*Praise hands* for Transparent creator's Jill Soloway's win in the directing category, but things got even better during her acceptance speech.

"When you take women, people of color, trans people, queer people, and you put them at the center of the story, the subjects instead of the objects, you change the world, we found out," she said. "We found out!"

Her quote was particularly meaningful at a ceremony that (for once, finally) did celebrate many people of color (more on that later!) and the outstanding show she runs. But it got even better.

"We need to stop violence against transgender woman and topple the patriarchy! Topple the patriarchy!"

Can we have Jill do all the acceptance speeches?

3. Jeffrey Tambor Hopes He'll Be Out of a Job Soon

Transparent star Jeffrey Tambor was a lock for the Best Actor in a Comedy win, but what wasn't a lock was his poignant speech out transgender actors in front of the camera. Tambor plays the lead, a transgender woman, in Soloway's show, but he hopes soon enough he'll be out of a job.

"I would not be unhappy were I the last cisgender male to play a female transgender on television," he said during his acceptance speech. Hell, yes.

4. Rami Malek Makes History With His Best Actor Win

The oh-so-dreamy Rami Malek is straight-up incredible as Elliott in Mr. Robot and his win is super deserved. But what that win means is huge for people of color, and a testament to how backward many of these awards shows can be. The star, who is of Egyptian heritage, is the first minority actor to win the award in 18 years. Eighteen years. In 1998, Andre Braugher won for Homicide: Life on the Street.

Let's hope it never, ever goes that long again.

5. Sarah Paulson Brings a Special Date to the Emmys

Sarah Paulson took home an Emmy for playing D.A. Marcia Clark in The People vs. O.J. Simpson (and killing it), and she brought her real-life counterpart to the ceremonies.

Host Jimmy Kimmel called out Clark during his opening monologue, and it was epic.

"Hi, Marcia. This must be strange for you, right?" he said to Clark in the audience. "Are you rooting for O.J. to win this time?"

Amazing.

6. Leslie Jones Calls Out Her Twitter Harassers

Leslie Jones joined the Ernst and Young accountants on stage for what is normally a dry segment. This time, she had words to say.

"Y'all using your skills to protect best voiceover on a French sitcom. Meanwhile, I'm butt naked on CNN," Jones said, referring to the prolonged, disgusting Twitter harassment she was the target of. "I just wanted to feel beautiful y'all. Can a sister feel beautiful?"

You'll always be beautiful to us, Leslie.
