With nearly 50 movies, innumerable awards, a hit TV show and a Miss World title under her belt, Priyanka Chopra continues to take the world by storm and be an inspiration role model for her millions of fans all over the world. The global superstar was relatively unknown in the U.S. until she made her debut on ABC's hit show Quantico, and has been a household name ever since. She has continued to prove her worth, which is why it comes as no surprise that the 33-year-old is featured on the cover of Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People" issue.
Chopra is known for breaking stereotypes. As a Bollywood actress, she was one of the first to ever do agree to play the lead in a woman-centric film called Fashion. In an interview with Time she says, "[Fashion] kinda changed me. It was at a time when female-led roles weren't given as much importance as the boy's movies, because boy's movies made more money." The movie was a huge success and won several awards including Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress at the 56th National Film Awards in India.
As an Indian, Chopora went against racial profiling and agreed to play Alex Parrish in Quantico. Rather than playing a stereotypical nerdy character with a thick accent, she plays a bold, brazen female-lead who is comfortable with her sexuality and feels entitled to her opinion. She told Time that throughout her career she has consciously made an effort NOT to play weak female characters, who are "damsels in distress". Instead, she chose characters who were strong and had the ability to move and influence people. "In the movies that I do, I'm irreplaceable," she says.
We are all anxiously awaiting her upcoming film Baywatch, set to hit the big screen on May 19, 2017. Her co-star Dwayne Johnson, was kind enough to write her touching story for Time and it perfectly encapsulates Chopra as an actress, role-model and person. It is safe to say, she is #lifegoals.
