In the months leading up to its Thanksgiving-Eve release, Disney has been teasing Moana — its newest (and most badass) Disney princess movie to date. Just to get us even more excited, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson shared its brand-new poster, and it looks amazing.
EXCLUSIVE: Here’s your very first look at the official poster for #MOANA! Today also kicks off something special that we’re calling #MOANAMondays -- From now until our Thanksgiving weekend release, myself, the cast and Disney will be serving up amazingly cool looks at the film, taking you deeper into how it was made, and what you can expect from our story and characters. And most importantly, THE MUSIC. Stay tuned because I have even MORE coming your way this week, including the worldwide premiere of the trailer on @GoodMorningAmerica this Thursday. #MOANA 🌊🎼
Bonus: From now until the movie premieres in November, all Mondays will hereby be declared as #MoanaMondays with sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes updates from the cast and crew each week. We were intrigued from the beginning, but the more we learn about the newest animated film, the more November 23 can't come soon enough.
1. Moana's Cast Is Bananas
Leading lady, 14-year-old Auli'I Cravalho, makes her movie debut (well, her voice does) in Moana after being discovered by her agent in her native home of Hawaii. Thankfully, this means Disney cast a person of color to play its first Polynesian princess and only the second Disney princess of color in the last five.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will star alongside Cravalho as the demi-god, Maui. Not only will he be taking on a cartoon character voiceover, but he will be singing. That reason alone is enough to get us to watch.
Former Pussycat Dolls member Nicole Scherzinger, Frozen star Alan Tudyk, and several others join the lead roles in what is sure to be some fantastic comradery.
2. Hamilton Creator Lin-Manuel Miranda Brings His Brilliance to Disney
In addition to being hilarious, Tony winner and creator of Broadway's Hamilton, Miranda has once again created an incredible soundtrack to the film. We love a good Disney musical and with a mastermind behind the tunes, we're pretty positive it won't disappoint. Don't believe us? Listen to the trailer, and hear for yourself!
3. No More Damsel In Distress
Moana is a woman who is taking matters into her own hands, and embarking on her own adventures. The movie focuses on the Polynesian princess finding herself and not on finding the perfect man. We love a good love story and all, but we also love that Moana is showing the world that it's not the only way to a happily ever after.
With our ever-growing anticipation of this sure-to-be Disney hit, all of a sudden Mondays aren't looking so bad.
