Everything You Need To Know About 'Mary Poppins Returns'

Mary Poppins Returns just started filming a few months ago, but we're already anticipating its release. Here's everything we know so far!

Months ago it was announced that our favorite childhood nanny was coming back after 53 years in the form of Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins Returns. While it's still a ways off, the 2018 Disney reboot will feature the magical nanny coming back to visit the grown-up Banks children. A lot of details aren't known yet, but here's everything we have for you so far. Stay tuned for updates as they come on this childhood sequel!

1. The Release Date Will Be Christmas Day

The movie is planning on being released in theaters on Christmas Day in 2018. They began filming in February, so that should be plenty of time to get viewers totally hyped for a Christmas treat!

2. Meryl Freakin' Streep

Not only will Emily Blunt step into Julie Andrews's iconic shoes, but the rest of the cast is pretty stinking impressive as well. Meryl Streep will appear as Mary Poppins' cousin Topsy, and Lin-Manuel Miranda will play Poppins' lamplighter friend. The grown-up Jane and Michael Banks are being played by Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw, and even Disney legend Angela Lansbury has joined the cast. Let's just say our hopes are pretty high.

3. It's Set 25 Years After The Original

Mary Poppins was originally set in 1910, and this reboot captures the Banks' children's life 25 years later in 1935 as adults with children of their own. Mary returns to the family while Michael is struggling through a personal loss, and the family is in desperate need of a pick-me-up, and Poppins is (of course) the perfect person for the job.

4. This Is Not The Director's First Rodeo (Or Musical)

Director of Mary Poppins Returns is Rob Marshall, who received a best director Oscar nomination for Chicago, as well as being the man behind Nine and Into the Woods.
