Idina Shares Positive Opinion on the #GiveElsaAGirlfriend Campaign

Idina Menzel opened up about her thoughts on the #GiveElsaAGilfriend social media campaign and it's as positive as you'd expect.

During the Billboard Music Awards, Idina Menzel spoke to a reporter from ET on the red carpet. The reporter asked her what she thought about the recent social media campaign, #GiveElsaAGirlfriend, which petitions for Disney to make her character, Elsa, a lesbian in Frozen 2.

"I think it's great that she's stirring it up," Idina told ET. "Disney's just gotta contend with that. I'll let them figure that out."

The campaign, which was started in April, spurred from Twitter user Alexis Isabel Moncada who tweeted, "I hope Disney makes Elsa a lesbian princess imagine how inconic that would be." She tweeted again, "Dear @Disney, #GiveElsaAGirlfriend." Later, Moncada wrote on about why she felt this petition is important.

"The entertainment industry has given us girls who have fallen in love with beasts, ogres who fall for humans, and even grown women who love bees. But we've never been able to see the purity in a queer relationship," she explained.

If the campaign is a success, Elsa will be the first fully open LGBT Disney princess. And fans can't let it go as the Twitter capaign has gone viral.

After watching Idina play lesbian Maureen Johnson in her breakthrough role in Broadway's Rent, we know there's no one better to take on this potentially iconic character development. But regadless of Disney's choice, Idina said she'll support the company's decision "no matter what".
