Wonder Woman Is Officially Bisexual (And It's A Really Big Deal)

In a recent interview, Wonder Woman writer Greg Rucka revealed that she has "obviously" been in relationships with other women—and we're all about it.

Badass female superheroes have taken over the comic book industry, and we're obsessed. So when Comicosity's interview with writer Greg Rucka revealed that Wonder Woman (aka Princess Diana of Themyscira) is actually bisexual, we openly cheered.

Although the comic does not openly say that her character is bisexual, Rucka says he believes that Wonder Woman's way of life back in Themyscira—her entirely female home island of the Amazons—would help define every part of her character, including her sexuality.

"Now, are we saying Diana has been in love and had relationships with other women? As Nicola and I approach it, the answer is obviously yes," Rucka says.

This news also holds a significant point in the world of comics and the role female characters play as a whole. Some may think that Wonder Woman leaves Themyscira to be with Steve Trevor, but assuming such a thing would diminish the powerful hero standing that she deserves.

"When we talk about agency of characters in 2016, Diana deciding to leave her home forever—which is what she believes she's doing—if she does that because she's fallen for a guy, I believe that diminishes her heroism," Rucka says. "She doesn't leave because of Steve. She leaves because she wants to see the world and somebody must go and do this thing. And she has resolved it must be her to make this sacrifice."

This is just another awesome step forward for sexuality in the DC comic franchise. They confirmed last year that Catwoman was bisexual and that Batman villainesses Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are in an "open relationship," while Midnighter has been officially classified on the DC roster as an openly gay character.
