The CMA Awards Made History This Year With These Unforgettable Moments

If you chose to watch game 7 of the World Series last night, you missed out on the biggest night and some of the biggest moments in country music.

The 50th anniversary of the CMA awards or game seven of the World Series — it was maybe the most important choice you'll make all year (minus the whole choosing a president thing). So, while huge congratulations are in order for the Cubbies, if you completely missed out on country music's biggest night of the year (and arguably the biggest country award show in all of history), you definitely made the wrong decision.

Wednesday night started out with an incredible, eight solid minutes of some of the most classic and famous country artists of all time, and the rest of the night definitely lived up to the opening standard.

Cohosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley had us laughing out loud at their constant digs toward the presidential election. Randy Travis' appearance moved us to actual tears. Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini, and Maren Morris wowed us with their incredible vocals. Dolly Parton got cut off trying to give her acceptance speech (boo!) after being recognized with one of the highest honors in country music — the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award — but she still made time to make a joke about a different kind of "high." Taylor Swift made a quick return to her roots to present the award for Entertainer of the Year to Garth Brooks. Beyoncé had us once again bowing down in her performance with the Dixie Chicks, and Blake Shelton....oh, wait. Blake didn't even show up.

It was a night of a whole range of emotions and chalk full of talent and history. To try and do the evening justice with our words is nearly impossible, but just know that the Cubs weren't the only ones who made history last night.
