Create Your Own DIY Fur Vest
It’s time to retire that puffy jacket this season for a DIY fur vest that will keep you chic, warm, and guilt-free—it’s faux, after all! It’s time to cozy up in this versatile layering piece. This easy tutorial will help you make a DIY fur vest in minutes!
A DIY fur vest is great for fall and will easily transition you to the winter months. Take this faux fur vest from day to night by adding embellishments such as a brooch or a belt. Or throw it over a dress and tights. Try re-creating this same vest for spring and summer by using lighter-weight fabric such as cotton.
Materials: A yard of faux fur fabric from your local fabrics store, measuring tape, a blank piece of paper, a marker, and a sharp pair of scissors.
1. Lay your fabric, "fur" side down, on a flat surface. Create a perfect circle by folding the fabric in half and tracing a semicircle with a marker. If you're using a lighter fabric, select a lighter-color marker. Cut out the semicircle with scissors. Shake out the fabric to remove any excess fur, and lay it over a flat surface.
2. With your marker, draw an almond shape oval on the piece of paper. Cut it out with the scissors. This will serve as the armhole pattern. You can cut out two patterns or just use the same one twice.
3. To know where to put the armholes, use a tape measure and measure from shoulder to shoulder. Place the tape measure in the center of the circle, and place the pattern for the armhole just on the inside of the measurements. Trace the patterns.
4. Grab your scissors, pucker up the fabric where you traced the pattern, and make a snip. Cut from the inside out, around the almond shape that you just traced. Shake it off again to remove excess fur.
