DIY Ring: Raw Amethyst and Druzy Agate

While you might appreciate raw gemstones for their magical allure, you should have some in your jewelry box for their beauty! Nothing makes a statement like a large, rough gemstone cocktail ring, and luxury">">luxury designers are taking note. Follow this DIY ring tutorial to make a great piece of statement jewelry for a lot less cost than those designer versions.

DIY Raw Gemstone Ring

Amethyst is a great stone to use for a DIY ring, but you can also use a beautiful piece of druzy agate, a natural stone known for its glittery look. (Some examples of different druzy agates are shown in the materials, below.) Twisting wire around the stone or through drilled holes adds a bit of interest and plays well with the raw gemstone look.

Materials: amethyst or druzy agate piece (Etsy is a good source), ring blank, E6000 craft glue, metal wire to match ring metal (optional), wire cutters, chain-nose pliers

DIY Raw Gemstone Ring

1. Glue the stone to the ring blank. Let the ring dry overnight.

2. Thread the metal wire through the stone bead. You can use any thickness of wire here. With a thin wire, you'll be able to go around many times. With thicker wire, you will have a heavier look.

3. Cut the ends on each side with wire cutters, leaving some excess. Using pliers, twist the wire through the ring and back up to the other side. Repeat as many times as your wire thickness allows.

4. To hide the end of the wire, twist it into the opposite drilled hole so it's hidden within the stone. Once you've repeated for both sides and twisted around the ring as many times as you can, your ring is complete.
