5 Of The Most WTF Denim Looks Trending This Year
We're all for new ways to wear our denim, but this year's denim looks have so far been quite questionable.
This year has been one for all kinds of trends, both questionable and otherwise. From fuzzy crocs and the return of the whale tail, to platforms and our favorite '90s Steve Madden sandals, the past few months have made for a bold year thus far. But just when we thought the one thing we could count on was our favorite denim looks to be a constant, the fashion world struck again. Check out these five denim looks from 2017 that definitely warrant a, "WTF?"
1. Vetements x Levis Jeans
We're pretty open-minded when it comes to denim trends. Uneven hemlines? We're here for it. Frayed culottes? Okay, sure! But 2017's Vetements x Levi jeans are causing us to pull out a few stops.
The French fashion brand collaborated with Levi's to create an ~innovative~ jean that features zippers down the backs of the legs, in addition to one long zipper smack dab down the center of the butt. We aren't here to judge, guys, but we're going to go ahead and say that the need for a zipper in the crack of your derriere is slightly ~questionable.~ But hey, for $1,990 from Nordstrom, to each their own!
2. Fake Mud Jeans
Fake it till you make it, right? Nordstrom's fake mud jeans are exactly what the sound like: jeans featuring fake mud, and they are taking the distressed denim trend to an entirely new and much dirtier level—or at least it looks like it. At $425 a pair, get ready to fool everyone into thinking you're a hard workin', rugged AF stud who can't be bothered with clean jeans. That'll show 'em.
3. Topshop's Clear Panel Mom Jeans
Okay, so we've moved past the fear of "mom jeans," with the high waist and light wash, but it's the "clear panel' part of this look that has us doing a double-take. Instead of patching the holes with another denim, Topshop chose to patch with a vinyl material for a "futuristic feel." So apparently, everyone take note: knee caps are a pretty big deal in the future. For $95 from either Nordstrom or Topshop, you too can show off your good-looking leg joints!
4. Topshop's MOTO Clear Plastic Straight Leg Jeans
Are you seeing an obsession with see-through trousers here? We might have thought the clear panel knees were silly, but then Topshop one-upped themselves, and no one could have seen it coming.
The brand recently introduced the MOTO Clear Plastic Straight Leg Jeans, and they're exactly what they sound like. The goal of the totally see-through pants (made totally out of plastic, so they would be ideal for rainy days), were created by the clothing company to be "out-of-the-ordinary" and "to get people talking," and they definitely did just that. At £55.00 (or $71.56), people will ~clearly~ be able to be wear the crinkly pants without totally breaking the bank.
5. Opening Ceremony / Y/Project's Detachable Jeans
Opening Ceremony teamed up with the Y/Project to bring the zip-off pants of your childhood to your adult world, and what could possibly go wrong? The detachable jeans give you the option of starting out the day with jeans (that admittedly do show off your "under-butt") and ending it in short-shorts or vice versa.
While we're not totally sure what you should do with the pant legs once they're off (maybe create a shirt to attach them to as sleeves?), for $425 (£328) from Opening Ceremony, we might finally have the solution to those crazy-weathered spring and fall days.
