DC Interview: Katelyn Herlein

Today, we’d like to introduce you to one of the girls that makes us Divine: Katelyn Herlein. (You might recognize her name. Her byline is all over our site.) Katelyn is our e-commerce editor at DivineCaroline, and boy, does this girl know how to shop. She plays a lot of other roles in this social, style world, too. Her blog, Katalina Girl, gives her a platform to curate what’s cool and emerging. Get to know Katelyn. She’s one Divine girl.

Name: Katelyn Herlein
Location: Des Moines, IA
Occupation: E-commerce editor at DivineCaroline.com and blogger at Katalina Girl

What's your style?
A mix of boho, grunge, sports luxe, and downtown chic.

What's your day like?
Busy! By day, I work on DivineCaroline. By night, I explore personal style on my blog Katalina Girl. I'm the director of social media for Go Blog Social and co-founder of Midwest Style Bloggers, too. Somewhere in there, I write and style for Juice. The opportunities and connections are worth the investment in time.

Your favorite scent?
Jill Sanders Sport perfume—it’s discontinued but there are still a few bottles out there.

Current obsession?
Skincare! I could spend hours in Sephora learning about everything.

What's your go-to look?
It would have to be a pair of distressed skinny jeans, an oversized v-neck tee, a designer bag, dainty jewelry, and a pair of black high heel booties. I like to keep it simple. Your style shouldn't look forced.

Describe your happy place.
That's such an easy answer. The beach–deserted, of course. It's a great place to clear my mind, get rid of technology, and think. I lived on the beach two summers ago in South Carolina and fell in love. My dream is to move back to the coast. Life is just a lot simpler there–and warmer!

What couldn't you live without?
I have a 6-pound Shipoo named Meyer and a 200-pound Great Dane named Rocky. I love my dogs to death.

Any fashion fails?
To some, yes. To me, not really. I've worn things that didn't photograph well or that I've looked back on and wondered why I put that  top with that bottom, but I would never say it's a fashion fail. I lean fashion-forward. Having the courage to wear whatever you want and try new trends takes balls. Plus, it makes fashion more fun.

Celebrity style crush?
If I had to pick, I love Olivia Palermo, Rachel Bilson, and Julianne Hough. Those girls know how to dress themselves.

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
Anna Wintour

What's your style philosophy?
There are no fashion rules. Wear what you want, when you want. As long as you're being true to yourself, nothing else matters.
