NYFW 2019 just wrapped and we're already ready to wear all the runway trends. We've looked into the future to see what fashion trends you can wear now that will be taking us into next year, based on the hottest looks from the biggest shows.

Now that NYFW is wrapped, we’re ready to start wearing the hottest looks from the Spring 2019 runways. Aside from delay drama at Marc Jacobs, returns from Rodarte and Proenza Schouler, Rihanna’s show-stopping Savage x Fenty closer, and the unforgettable shoe incident at the Harper’s Bazaar Icons party, the fashion itself was wild. Explore the jungle, open frontier, and crazy ’80s with the seven biggest fashion trends from SS19. Shop our top picks below.

2019 Fashion Trend #1: Electric Feel

Sarah Paulson was the first to wear neon at her Ocean’s 8 red carpet premiere. Then Kim Kardashian West wore the highlighter shade all throughout her trip to Miami. But Blake Lively’s head-to-toe electric suiting was what really solidified the trend, followed by features at the 2018 Emmy Awards. Not to mention the multiple appearances at Cushnie, Prabal Gurung, Rodarte, and Tibi, with romantic ruffles and workwear separates, respectively. We’re already on top of this trend with our favorite hot pink coats to rock this fall.

2019 Fashion Trend #2: Wild Thoughts

The ultimate evening look from the TOM FORD SS19 Runway Show. #TOMFORD #TOMFORDSS19 #NYFW

Surprise, surprise! The reign of The Naomi skirt lives on as natural animal print ran wild on runways during NYFW 2019, with a few new front-runners added to the mix. From the very beginning with Tom Ford’s mix of reptilian and cheetah print to ADEAM’s dreamy zebra maxi dress, ending with head-to-toe electric cheetah looks at Savage x Fenty. DVF joined in the fun with an unexpected cowhide duster jacket that will soon be on everyone’s wishlist.

2019 Fashion Trend #3: Smart Dressing

There was no shortage of strong suiting at the SS19 shows. Classic silhouettes met with deconstructed styles to create a modern take on jackets and dress pants. We loved Carolina Herrera’s reimagined suits in unexpected plaids, Tibi’s modern cuts, and Calvin Klein’s timeless tweed blazers, expertly paired with merch tees and scuba skirts. How how could we forget Sally LaPointe’s patent leather trouser shorts? If you haven’t already, now’s the time to secure yourself a tailored trench dress before they become a scarce commodity.

2019 Fashion Trend #4: Puff Piece

If you thought the puff sleeve was just a passing trend, designers clearly didn’t get the memo because oversized shoulders are still going strong for spring 2019. We saw ’80s-inspired sleeves at Rodarte, Victorian-era shoulders from Brock Collection, and feminine floral prints at Mara Hoffman. And who could forget Tracee Ellis Ross’ stunning Valentino number at the 2018 Emmys? Though puff-sleeved pieces have been done in blouse and dress form, keep it fresh with ladylike details like ruffles, built-in bustiers, and sweetheart necklines.

Tourist style, but make it fashion—at least that was the motto at Anna Sui, Michael Kors, and Calvin Klein this past New York Fashion Week. Between boardshorts, wetsuits, and Hawaiian prints galore, an entire family vacation took place on the SS19 runways. Get ready to see cheeky pieces like neoprene skirts, Baja knits, and bucket hats take the streets with a high-fashion spin this next spring.

2019 Fashion Trend #6: Prairie Chic

Flashbacks of Laura Ingalls Wilder danced through our heads as prairie dresses left and right walked the Spring 2019 runways. Among our favorites were Coach, Tory Burch, Jonathan Simkhai, and Brock Collection. Though not as flashy as Brandon Maxwell’s glam cowboy boot invitations, the frontier influence (i.e. free-flowing silhouettes, ruffles, and tiny liberty print) was apparent throughout. Whether you’re a romantic at heart or a little more edgy, there’s something for everyone with this western-inspired trend.

2019 Fashion Trend #7: Sugar Rush

✨ Marc Jacobs Spring 2019 ✨ #MJSS19

A post shared by Marc Jacobs (@marcjacobs) on

Playful, candy-colored clothes floated around NYFW 2019, giving everyone a much-needed sugar rush. Marc Jacobs used feathers, tulle, and bows in a very ’80s way to show off his bubblegum hues. J. Mendel was no stranger to tulle either, treating macaron pastels with classic romance. Made with the sweet tooth in mind, Brandon Maxwell brought cotton candy, red vines, butterscotch, and sweet mint to the runway with his Texan collection. Thandie Newton even rocked one of his Pepto-pink cape gowns (modeled by none other than Gigi Hadid) as she accepted her first Emmy for Westworld.
