How To Wear Fall’s Breakout Trend: Colorful Tights

According to NYFW, colorful tights will be everywhere this fall. Stock up on statement hosiery before this colorful fad fades away.

Between sparkle hosiery at Ulla Johnson, vibrant neons at Jeremy Scott, and a rainbow of pastel and bright white nylons at Saks Potts, statement tights were hard to miss during Fall Fashion Week 2018. We know taking on such a bold trend can be a bit daunting, but with our favorite ways to style the colorful tights trend (and the help of the outfit generator, the MORE Personal Stylist), you’ll instantly become a fashion trailblazer.

Colorful Tights Look #1: Animal Print

Straight off of Saks Potts' F/W18 runway, we were immediately obsessed with this animal print look. It’s the perfect fall outfit: a long-sleeved dress, matching kitten heels, a cozy fur tote, and uber trendy ultra-violet tights to keep your bare legs at lease a little warmer. The tan and black of natural cheetah print create a neutral base to really let these colorful tights stand out. Toss all your daily essentials in any sort of furry handbag (preferably faux) to bring a little bit of texture to this fall look. Since yellow and brown are purple’s natural complements, this stylish combo is already a recipe for fashion success.

Colorful Tights Look #2: Head-To-Toe Monochrome

The monochrome outfit isn’t a revolutionary discovery. At this point, it’s a fashion mainstay among street style stars begging to make a colorful statement. Take the trend one step further with a one-color outfit that’s literally head-to-toe. When you’d regularly wear black stockings, switch them out with colorful tights in the same shade as your going-out dress. We couldn’t resist this powder blue that rivals yet another one of Saks Potts’ cheeky tea party looks. You can find these mostly opaque Hanes tights in almost any hue, so go ahead and pull out your little red dress for a night that’s sure to be endlessly Instagrammed.

Colorful Tights Look #3: Two-Toned Neutral

Though these colorful tights are essentially neutral, there’s nothing basic about two-toned hosiery. Alone, these black-and-white tights give us major jester vibes, but with a graphic hoodie and oversized checked blazer, these crazy stockings actually work. If you’re looking for a little pop of color, switch out this black sweatshirt for a vibrant statement hoodie or these white ballet sneakers with something a little more colorful. Even if you are A-okay with this neutral look, it’s a definite step up from your usual black-and-white getup.

Colorful Tights Look #4: Color Blocking

The major key to making colorful tights work is color blocking. Say it with me: color blocking. To say we were inspired by Jeremy Scott would be an understatement. We took his masterpiece of pattern and complementary colors and toned it down to a more wearable state for the everyday. Start with a solid pair of your favorite colorful tights and wear it with a patterned top in the opposite complementary color. In this case, orange and blue. Take your cropped jeans or culottes into cooler fall months, layered over statement tights to give a subtle peek-a-boo effect. Before you head out the door, slip into some comfy mules in a slightly darker hue to look straight off the runway, mastering the colorful tights trend in stride.
