Sometimes, Knockoff Manolos Are Made of Cocaine

In news that underscores the myriad things we don’t understand about drug trafficking and shoe construction, a ring of smugglers who were molding cocaine into Manolo Blahnik replicas was busted last week. Apparently, these crafty cocaine cobblers had found a way to turn the drug into a paste, sculpt it into a shoe, paint it, and totally pull one over on customs inspectors for two years. Cops at the Barcelona airport found nine pounds of cocaine shoes (each pair estimated at around $70,000) and put six smugglers—five Colombians and one Spaniard—in the big house. Next time we’re feeling twitchy, we’re totally taking off our shoes. (Via New York Post
