We watched this trend walk the runways at Rebecca Minkoff and Custo Barcelona during New York Fashion Week Spring 2014. It's hard not to smile when you see fiesta flair: It's a happy and colorful look that has us reaching for bright colors, intricate embroidery, and bold patterns like these. What we love about the look is that it gives us an opportunity to show off our creative style, but you should be aware that it's easy to overdo. When in doubt, inject a neutral into your colorful outfit to balance the bold. Here's how we wear the trend:
Elizabeth wore her embroidered orange dress (left) with a statement necklace and chic blue pumps. Of course, a neutral wool jacket is needed to brave the cold and balance out the brights. Mixing bold hues is a simple way to sport the trend if you don't have a statement piece that screams fiesta.
I chose to style my version in a more subtle way (right) with a bright blue top, neutral black leather pants, and pumps. Wearing fiesta flair doesn't always mean you have to be dressed from head to toe in striking colors and eye-catching accessories. A top that really pops, like my blue number, does the trick as well.
If you're still apprehensive about wearing this trend, start by picking a few vibrant colors and put them together. Try dark denim skinny jeans, a bright yellow top and a statement necklace with a hint of orange or red. You could also find a casually embroidered dress in a bright color (or even white) and carry a colorful bag for a stylish fiesta look.
