How to Wear Camouflage (Off the Battlefield)

When I first started seeing camo hit the shelves at my favorite stores, I wasn’t quite sure how to react. Was this going to be a big trend? Or was it just going to be a fad that would quickly fade out? After a few months, I came to the conclusion that camo was not going anywhere and guess what, I love it! Camouflage isn’t just for blending in anymore. This bold trend has completely taken over.

When I first started playing around with camo, I paired it with a plain black tee and chambray top, fearful of mixing too many patterns or textures. As I got more comfortable, however, I discovered camouflage is actually an amazing neutral. You really can’t go wrong with this print. Pair camo skinny jeans with a bright neon top for a statement, or a classic heather gray tee and moto vest like I did below. Though the tee and vest are "tough" pieces that match the masculinity of the camouflage pants, lots of mixed metal finishes in bracelets, layered chains, and even the toe caps on my flats bring some femininity to the look.

After discovering my love for camo, my relationship with this trend evolved to outerwear. One of my favorite go-to looks is to take a simple girly sundress, throw on a pair of moto boots, and finish off the look with my vintage camo jacket. I love the juxtaposition of the girly dress with the roughed up boots and jacket. Pairing camouflage prints with more feminine textures is the perfect way to make this trend work.

Camouflage really has endless options when it comes to different looks. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone because it looks like camo is one trend that is here to stay.
