Choosing The Right Pediatrician For Twins

When deciding on a pediatrician for twins, there may be a few things to consider that differ from choosing a pediatrician for your singleton. And given the fact that you will have twice as many doctor visits, you’ll definitely want to start with the right one. If you are a parent who already had a child or children before your twins, then you may already have a good relationship with a pediatrician that will see your twins as well. But if you are a first time parent, and of twins to boot, the following information will help to get you pointed in the right direction.

Here are a few things to ponder when choosing a pediatrician for twins:

  • Do they have any experience with twins? A doctor with some experience may likely have a better understanding of some things that are common with twins. Such as speech development issues, double feeding and sleeping schedules and so forth. As your twins get older they may even be able to give advice on general issues in regard how they interact and their individuality.
  • Are they willing to see your twins together at the same appointment if need be? A big plus for busy parents.
  • Are their examination rooms able to accommodate multiple children? (Some offices have really tiny ones). And is their waiting room spacious enough to accommodate the double stroller you will likely have in tow?
  • If you have boy/girl twins, will you want to take your daughter to a female doctor and your son to a male one? Something to ask yourself considering that most children feel more comfortable with a doctor of the same sex, especially as they get older.

Hopefully these questions will help you get started on your quest for a worthy pediatrician for your twins. Happy hunting!
