These New iPhone Emojis Will Restore Your Faith in Humanity

Emojis are getting a much needed makeover to become more inclusive. Better late than never, right?

Emojis are getting a diversity-inspired makeover! Apple recently released a statement outlining its plans to update and create new emojis for iPhone and iPad users that reflect a more socially-conscious world.

Along with a preview of the new emojis––including popular characters that better reflect the diversity of people everywhere––Apple highlighted their partnership with the Unicode Consortium, a nonprofit that works to ensure that web software is available in all languages for people worldwide.

According to a tweet from writer and coder Owen Williams the emoji update will feature male dancing bunnies, men getting their haircut and more.

Equality in emojis doesn't just stop with "dude bunnies." The new update will include female emojis that surf, play basketball and even lift weights. We also love the new single parent emojis and the female construction workers. #GirlPower!

One of the most groundbreaking and long-awaited updates to the emoji world is the release of an LGBTQ rainbow Pride flag, which comes after many years of Apple CEO Tim Cook's outspoken support for equality legislation. The gun emoji will also receive a timely update, changing from a black pistol to a neon green water gun. Last year, New Yorkers Against Gun Violence started a campaign for a change to the controversial emoji "as a symbolic gesture to limit gun accessibility."

Users can expect to see the new characters on screens this fall when the newest iOS 10 update is released. We can't wait to start seeing emojis that allow the expression of every type of person and lifestyle!
