First Day of School All Over Again
I am a college student, a single mother, and a girlfriend of a man twenty years older than me.
A few weeks ago, my children’s school burned down. They have been there for four years now. It was heartbreaking, but today, they finally went back to school. They found a school to stay at until June. And they are on a school bus. It was kind of surreal, because I have always been the one taking my kids to school and picking them up. I waved and fought back the tears.
I started my junior year yesterday, but I didn’t go. My kids were home, and I had no sitter. Bad start to a long year, right? Well, not for me, because I chose the classes I wanted. I am there Monday through Friday, so I get the weekends to shop, wash clothes, go out, or just to sleep.
It will be a little weird—the first day of school is always weird for me. The kids were happy to get up and go back to school! But … snow is in the forecast! OMG! What to do … what to do.
So, our schedules changed. They have to be to school at 8:00 a.m., and will be home around 4:00 p.m. Our weekly schedule is full, but Sunday we sleep or go to church.
I am happy they are back in school. My man is at work. He leaves 3:00 a.m., and woke me up at 5:30 a.m. this morning to get the kids ready. They will eat a small breakfast and go to school and eat another breakfast. I don’t know about lunch yet.
We will always be okay, as long as I keep believing in God and trusting Jesus. I know if we made it this far, we will be able to do anything and get through it.
