When your parents said, "Eat your greens," avocados probably weren't the first things that came to mind. In fact, they're not even a vegetable! The avocado falls into the fruit category and is considered a "single seed berry." While avocados are healthy in so many ways, there are other ways to reap the benefits of this fruit besides tossing them into your salad.

1. Use it as a moisturizer.
While it may not be the same as eating guacamole, avocado works wonders in the beauty department. The antioxidants and oils inside avocados are great for moisturizing damaged hair and skin. Simply spread avocado over any sunburned or flaky patches of skin, let it soak for 10 to 15 minutes, and finish with a warm bath. You skin will feel replenished and moisturized in no time.

2. Have a good hair day.
Along with saving dry skin, avocados are also perfect for fixing damaged hair! A mix of avocado, olive oil, and egg can make a great DIY hair mask if you're looking to go the natural route. Slather it all over your hair—don't worry if it's a little sticky—and let it sit. Before long, your hair will be happy and nourished!

3. Up your potassium intake.
If you weren't already chowing down on chips and guac at Chipotle, now's a great time to start. Avocados have more potassium than bananas do, so slicing one up as a snack will help strengthen your muscles, prevent heart and kidney disorders, alleviate anxiety and stress, and also keep your nervous system in check.

4. Revamp your breakfast sandwich.
While most people expect to see avocados in guacamole, they're also delicious in and on all kinds of unexpected cuisines. Pairing avocado with bacon and eggs is a splendid way to start a morning. Check out this recipe from Skinny Kitchen that takes less than 20 minutes to make!

5. Spice up your night life.
Summer might be coming to an end, but margaritas are delicious all year round. Blend lime juice, tequila, and chopped-up avocado with some ice, and you have a delicious, savory drink in your hands that's perfect any time of year.
