To create amazing bacon recipes, you first need to know some bacon basics such as cooking and freezing. Cooking bacon doesn't have to be unpleasant, and there is no need to stand at the stove with grease spattering everywhere—you can cook bacon in the oven (a life-changing tip).

To cook bacon in the oven:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  3. Place a cooling or cookie rack in the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Place the bacon strips on the rack and put the rack and sheet in the oven.
  5. Cook for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how thick the bacon is and how crispy you like your bacon.
  6. Rotate the pan once during baking so your bacon browns evenly.
  7. Remove from the oven, and transfer bacon to paper-towel-lined plates to drain.

Tips:

  • Be very careful when removing trays from the oven as they are filled with bacon grease.
  • Do not pour bacon grease down the drain. Pour the grease into an empty tin can and allow the grease to harden and then dispose of it in the garbage.
  • If you want to reserve some bacon grease for use in the kitchen, check out these ideas for using bacon grease.

Once you have cooked bacon in the oven, you can freeze it to use as needed in your favorite bacon recipes. This is similar to the precooked bacon you find at the grocery store.

To freeze cooked bacon:

  • Completely cool the bacon, and place on a clean baking sheet.
  • Place the baking sheet in the freezer for approximately 30 minutes.
  • Once frozen, you can store the bacon in a freezer-safe container.
  • To use the frozen cooked bacon, remove pieces as needed and reheat them in the microwave for five to seven seconds.

If you want to freeze uncooked bacon but you won't be using a whole package at once, take a look at this method for rolling and freezing bacon slices for individual use.

While bacon is fantastic on its own, adding it to some of your favorite recipes can result in flavors that are out of this world. Here are 40 bacon recipes to prove it.
