Cotton shoulder bag, 'Jade Landscape' (Guatemala)

Women from the Ixil Maya community in Guatemala are proud to share their weaving legacy through the Cotzal Artisan Cooperative. Working on the back strap loom, they weave this light and dark green cotton shoulder bag with yellow, beige, blue, orange, pink and red figures. An exterior zipper pocket on the back keeps keys and cell phone handy. The milpa (corn) symbolizes the beauty of our natural environment; and the bird with outstretched wings, known as Tzichin, is believed to attract riches.
