Release Athens 2023 welcomes Helloween on Saturday, June 17th, at Plateia Nerou. The iconic band from Germany, the undisputed masters of European power metal, will provide us one of the greatest metal nights of our lives, with a dream setlist for every fan! Alongside them, the magnificent Jinjer from Ukraine, and the amazing Beyond The Black. Silent Winter will be the opening act.
One of the two, three most influential bands that came out of the metal boom of the 80s, Helloween started in Hamburg at the beginning of the decade and soon became one of the biggest names in the business. With the release of "Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part I" they defined what European power metal was all about and with the second part of the album they established themselves, once and for all, in the consciousness of metalheads all over the world.
The aftermath was equally impressive. 16 studio albums with millions of sales, countless concerts and appearances at top festivals as headliners, kept Helloween at the forefront of metal, which is expected to continue for several years.
With the long-awaited return of Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen and the steady presence of Weikath and Grosskopf, the band opened a new chapter in their long history with the release of their self-titled album in 2021. "Helloween" was rightly praised by audiences and critics alike and added more stellar songs to a discography that was already full of them, such as the unsurpassed anthems "Ride The Sky", "A Tale That Wasn't Right", "Eagle Fly Free", "Power", "I Want Out" etc.
A decade after their last show, Helloween returns to Greece and Release Athens 2023, with a fantastic show that will surely be the ultimate metal event for the upcoming summer.
Originating from Donetsk, Jinjer is one of the most talked about bands in metal today. Their excellent take on metal, combined with their dedication to music and their clear intention to not mince words, has earned them them cult following and critical acclaim. In 2021 they released "Wallflowers", the fourth album of their career and one of the top metal albums of that year, validating those who claim that they will soon find their place among the biggest acts on the scene.
The band's point of reference is of course Tatiana "Tati" Shmayluk, one of the top female vocalists of the 21st century, according to Loudwire, who "possesses the cleans of a soulful superstar and the growls of a demon queen ". Along with the undeniable talent of Roman Ibramkhalilov (guitar), Eugene Abdukhanov (bass) and Vladislav Ulasevich (drums), Jinjer continues their frantic journey to the top, setting their own rules in modern metal and continuing to impress with every performance in the world's biggest metal arenas.
Over the last year, they have played a key role in raising awareness around the war in Ukraine, openly expressing their views and raising money to help the affected people and we have all the more reason to be especially happy that we will have the chance to see them live again, after their triumphant performance at Release Athens 2022, alongside the great Slipknot and Sepultura. On Saturday, June 17, Jinjer, together with Helloween, guarantee another unforgettable metal experience.
Beyond The Black were formed in 2014 in Mannheim, Germany. The band was an instant success. Their debut album, "Songs of Love and Death", hit like a bomb in the world of atmospheric symphonic metal and besieged the German Top 15 for weeks, and won the Metal Hammer Award 2015 for "Best Debut".
The same happened with their next three releases, "Lost In Forever" (2016), "Heart of the Hurricane" (2018), "Horizons" (2020), which were commercial and artistic triumphs and managed to enter the charts of many countries such as Austria, Germany, Great Britain and the U.S.A. among many others. The release of their fifth self-titled album in 2023 confirmed that Jennifer Haben, the ultimate leader of the group, is currently one of the top voices in symphonic metal.
So far, they have performed countless shows all over the world, toured as a support act for heavyweights such as Aerosmith, Korn, Saxon and Within Temptation, and have played at the world's biggest metal festival, Wacken Open Air, several times.
Follow Beyond The Black:
Silent Winter were formed in Volos in 1995, with strong influences from Stratovarius, Helloween and Gamma Ray. Although the group disbanded in 1999, they returned in 2018 with the EP "The War Is Here", followed the next year by their debut album "The Circles of Hell", which received excellent reviews and was recognized as one of the best releases of 2019. "Empire of Sins", their second album, was released in 2021 with the metal cover of Belinda Carlisle's "Leave A Light On" being the standout track.
